Always on sight: Exploring the evolving world of Student Affairs with Pantelis Chantzaras
The world today is evolving rapidly, at a speed that would have been unimaginable just a few decades ago. It’s no wonder that many fields are questioning their role and identity in this fast-paced technological environment, and the world of Student Affairs & Services (SAS) is no exception.
In this context, Pantelis Chantzaras, Coordinator of Students and Alumni Affairs at Perrotis College, offers exemplary insights into the possible future of the profession, along with key advice for those just venturing into the field.
“The role of student affairs professionals is rapidly evolving to meet the dynamic needs of students,” he explains. “The future of student affairs lies in adaptability and a commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive educational environment.”
His testimony, drawn from years of first-hand experience supporting international students as they find their paths, once again highlights the human side of the profession; a calling for many, driven by a genuine interest in equipping the next generation with the tools they need to build their futures.
Pantelis emphasizes the importance of considering the lives behind the work, stressing that all new developments in technological areas must ultimately serve the goal of encouraging and nurturing students and student life.
“Center students,” he comments, “but remember you are human too.”
In such a complex yet often overlooked field, where professionals are not always seen or included in broader conversations about education, Pantelis also stresses the importance of reaching out to fellow colleagues and recognizing the efforts of those whose achievements often go unnoticed:
“Reflect regularly and respect the invisible work: the administrative assistance, the RAs... everybody who is working with you… Just respect their invisible work.”
