From 1 to 6 September 2025, EucA students landed in breathtaking Ponta Delgada, Azores (Portugal) for an immersive experience on the importance of sustainability and the power of individual action in tackling overconsumption and pollution.
Now in its second successful edition, the Sustainability Summer School dove deep into the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, blending non-formal training with hands-on experiences. The program aimed not only to sharpen participants’ understanding of global sustainability challenges, but also to foster cross-cultural collaboration and encourage active engagement with the biodiversity and rich culture of the Azorean islands.
Students gained a holistic perspective on the intersection of environmental action and scientific research through lectures at the University of the Azores and visits to CIVISA (Azores Seismovolcanic Information and Surveillance Center).
Equally impactful was their active volunteering with Life IP Azores Natura, a local environmental project dedicated to restoring coastal ecosystems, planting native trees, and supporting conservation efforts across the islands.
Most memorable for all was the experience of truly inhabiting, even for a short time, such an awe-inspiring environment. From whale-watching tours to exploring volcanic landscapes, the journey was an unforgettable adventure for all who joined.
After such an intense but rewarding week, the students returned home not only with profound new memories but also with practical tools, fresh perspectives, and a renewed drive to promote sustainable change.
