EUCA recommends: Otranto Legality Experience 2010 (29th August - 3rd September) - deadline for applying August 13th CLOSED

The first edition of the international forum on illegal economies, organised crime and financial globalisation will take place in the suggestive town of Otranto, Italy.
Approaching younger generations to the themes of legality and social contrast to organised crime: with these goals FLARE presents OLE - Otranto Legality Experience - a week of seminars (from 29 August to 3 September), meetings and workshops with some of the most important representatives of the political, economical and juridical world. The application form is available at www.ole2010.org. The deadline for applying at OLE is August 13.
Realised with the contribution of the European Union and the Apulia Region, Otranto Legality Experience has been organised by FLARE Network in collaboration with the Municipality of Otranto, Province of Lecce, Libera (Associazioni, nomi e numeri contro le mafie), Libera Terra and Terra del Fuoco Mediterranea. Vittorio Agnoletto, politician and former MEP, is the cultural coordinator of OLE.
During the Otranto Legality Forum will be deepened three main themes:
The way political changes since the emergence of the world financial system and the fall of the Berlin Wall have been used by criminal organisations to strengthen and internationalise their activities;
The identification and the extent of the grey areas in the workings of the financial and legal economic system which enable criminal powers to infiltrate them;
The identification of the responsibilities of international organisations, countries, multinational corporations, civil society, and define the actions they can employ against organised crime.
«A wild financial globalisation, deprived of clear rules, has favoured the strengthening of illegal economies; organised crime is behaving more and more on an international dimension and, not rarely, has reached an even stronger power than that of single countries - says Vittorio Agnoletto, cultural coordinator of OLE -. During the Forum we will try to understand how Europe, its countries and the civil society can develop the necessary anticorps before this cancer devour our common future».
More than 30 workshops and seminars are scheduled during the Forum; international guests and relators include: Andrea Baranes, Director of Campaign for World Bank Reform; Giancarlo Caselli, Italian Public Prosecutor; Luigi Ciotti, President of Libera; Saro Crocetta, MEP and former Mayor of Palermo; Hans Nilsson, Head of Division Council of the EU; Moni Ovadia; Pedro Paez, Former Minister of Finances in Ecuador.
«Journalists, experts, prosecutors, politicians and artists, all together to reflect upon the relationship between the economic unbalances and the dark curse of crime - says Michele Curto, President of FLARE Network - OLE is a unique chance to confront each other in one of the most suggestive Italian regions».
The first edition of OLE is dedicated to the memory of Renata Fonte, killed by mafia on March 31st 1984.
