EU Project CELAN - Network for the promotion of language strategies for competitiveness and employability

The EU project "CELAN - Network for the promotion of language strategies for competitiveness and employability" was borned from the EU Business Platform of Multilingualism. It aims to document in detail the actual linguistic needs of companies and employees, and to assess to what extent these needs are satisfied by current language provisions across different sectors and Member States.

The central project deliverable will be an on-line platform providing business users with a collection of linguistic support systems (self-assessment, successful practice, instructional modules, etc).
EUCA’s role in the project is of a "multiplier", i. e. organisation with established networks that will support the project. Thus, through EUCA’s network of colleges the potential outreach of the project will go far beyond the partnership, in terms of both geographical and sectoral spread.

The CELAN Project was launched on Friday, 11 February 2011 with the kick-off meeting. Since that, EUCA started to be actively involved in 4 out of 7 Work Packages of the programme, while collaborating in others:
WP1 - Research into companies' linguistic and language-related needs
WP2 - Research on and identification of existing services, tools and resources
WP4 - Communication and Dissemination
WP5 - Exploitation of CELAN network project outcomes and results.

In March 2011 the CELAN project launched the survey for companies to investigate the needs in the field by business world. See http://www.euca.eu/eu-project-celan-heart-launched-survey-companies
By autumn 2011 WP1 will be closed and the results are expected to be published.
